Money or bank accounts in China can be frozen by the bank or police for various reasons. When this happens, the recipient may be unable to use the money sent to them, or access the bank account until the case is resolved.
What causes a bank account to be frozen?
The bank account may be frozen due to some reasons, such as:
- The recipient receives a large amount of money.
- Suspicious activity that does not comply with the law.
- The bank account holder commits a crime or is suspected of illegal activity, which may cause both personal and joint bank accounts to be frozen.
What to do if a bank account is frozen?
If the recipient’s bank account is frozen after receiving a transfer, the recipient should inform the sender immediately. The sender must then report the issue to Topremit within 3 days after the money is received. Topremit will do its best to assist in resolving the case. Additionally, if the sender has previously sent money to the recipient without any issues, Topremit may review previous transactions as a reference, as long as they were successfully sent within the last 2 years. Beyond that, Topremit will not be able to review or assist in resolving the frozen account case.
Additionally, we recommend that the recipient directly contact the police or the bank that froze the account, to explain that the money was legitimately received from overseas and clarify the purpose of the transaction. This can help the authority to handle the case more effectively.
